A plateau in the North of Israel overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan Valley. The Golan settlements participated in the revolt against Rome. Even after destruction of the Second Temple, Jewish settlements continued to exist on the Golan Heights. In Byzantine times close to one million Jews may have lived in as many as 100 settlements here.
